Our journey toward a powerful prayer life begins with faith. In Matthew, we read, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:22). But you might ask, how do I have faith, how can I really believe God will give me what I ask for? Or perhaps you’re asking, why don’t we get everything we ask for immediately? Those questions will be specifically answered in the chapters that follow; but as we begin, let’s take a look at the faith that is required for powerful prayer.

Faith is more than just belief. It involves hope and love. The apostle Paul said “these three things remain: faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love.” Love is incredibly important and it is what God wants from us. We will never have a powerful prayer life if we do not truly love God. Our faith in God must be firmly rooted in our love for Him.

If you get a Bible concordance and look up any word, it will show you many places in the Bible where that word is used. Try looking up the word “prayer” in a concordance and read each passage. Look up the word “faith,” “belief,” and other words that are involved with powerful prayers. It is amazing to see how these ideas are explained in the New Testament Gospels and throughout the entire Bible. When you see all the verses on “belief,” it gives you a new perspective of the concept of belief. I did this with many of the words associated with prayer.     i am forwarding this to evoynere i know (one of the IMPORTANT emails that should be read) in the past i have tried some of these methods and i know they are the best tool for more productivity but checking your email is like an addiction who emailed me, what’s going on etc. Perhaps i need a Emails Anononomis support group :)what i do find is that i end up spending more time trying to figure the email out than actually fulfilling it. my rule of thumb if it’s more than one para i CALL the person (!!) and talk the issue or task over with them.thanks for a great post!

      I so appreciate your words in the Journal Star today. The opienng up of yourself and your faith for all the world (well, all of Lincoln) to see. I think I find myself unwavering in some areas and wrestling in others. It used to bother me…the wrestling. And then I would remember that story about Jacob and how he would not back down against GOD (of all people) until he got what he wanted. And in the end, Jacob came away with a new name and (quite literally) a new way of walking. And so I just keep limping along on my journey of unwavering faith in a God who welcomes my wrestling and questioning mind.

      Michelle,My wrestling laelty has been more with church than with God! Long story. My husband, on the other hand, just told me the other day, “God is jerking me around.” Though it troubled me, his words also filled me with wonder because just three years ago he was an unbeliever. soo…I guess wrestling is good in my eyes. :)BTW…your boys are gorgeous. I have a not-so-little redhead (he just turned 13) myself and have quite a weakness for them. Blessings!
