Someone told Jack Canfield that if you have a sharp axe, you can go out to a large tree and chop five times each day until the tree falls, no matter how big it is. He took this to heart and made a goal of doing five things per day to promote his book. Some things Jack Canfield and his co-writer did to promote his first Chicken Soup for the Soul book:
• Called people who could review the book
• Wrote press releases
• Sent copies to ministers to use in sermons
• Gave free talks at churches
• Did book signings at any store that they could
• Got the book on military base stores
• Asked fellow speakers to sell them at their talks
• Asked seminar companies to put it in their catalogues
• Went to gift shops and other shops asking them to carry the book
• Got bakeries, gas stations, restaurants to sell it
• Mailed a copy to many celebrities
• Gave a copy to each of the jurors on the OJ Simpson trial, some were seen in the news with a copy
• Sold them at lectures and talks they did
They ended up selling 8 million copies in about 40 languages. It took a long time, the book took over a year to make the bestseller list, but they did it by doing a little bit each day during the time they had speaking jobs in addition to promoting their book.
It is amazing what a person can accomplish if they plan to do five things a day. What could you accomplish if you did five things a day to accomplish your goals and dreams? read more
